The practice of Mindfulness has been defined as a training in “soft readiness.” Just as we train our bodies to be strong, and just as we plan our financial lives to save for a rainy day, we are also invited to train our mind, heart and spirit to meet life fully as it unfolds. Anything can and often does happen in our lives and the lives of our loved ones. Love and loss are inevitable for us mortal beings. Training in “readiness” allows us to open to the unexpected and inevitable changes in our lives with gentle strength, resilience and courage instead of panic, anxiety, judgment or reactivity. And training in “softness” allows us to meet these challenges with kindness, wisdom, love and compassion. Ultimately, this path of loving presence opens us to the gifts of grace, peace and joy even as we learn to accept the unbearable moments of our lives.

This is a journey of awakening our heart and soul to courage, wisdom and kindness in the face of fear and difficulty. It is a path to freedom.
